Qualitative Risk Analysis
Hazard Identification is the first and, in many ways, the most important step in risk assessments. If a hazard is not identified, its contribution to the risk cannot be estimated. Only those hazards that are identified are likely to be controlled with any confidence.
Qualitative Risk Analysis
Some of the techniques applied to assist in the identification of hazards include – HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, constructability reviews etc. Hazard & Operability (‘HAZOP’) study is the industry-standard technique used to identify and address safety, environmental and operability concerns when reviewing process engineering designs. HAZOP study is an important contributor to the Hazard Management Process. Hazard Identification (HAZID) is a similar technique used when there is more emphasis on external hazards rather than just process hazards. A constructability review follows a similar pattern to a HAZID, but with focus on construction, installation and commissioning of an equipment, skid or plant unit. Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Classification is the process of determining the SIL requirement. It entails evaluating the risk that would be obtained in the absence of the Instrumented Protective Function (IPF) (the unmitigated risk) and comparing it with the applicable criteria for tolerability of risk (TOR). Any shortfall represents the risk reduction that is required of the IPF.VIDEOS
Some of GOGERL’s Qualitative Risk Analysis Projects
HAZID and risk assessment study for the Akpo field subsea intervention work which included the installation, workover and commissioning of subsea control modules, Xmas trees, hydraulic distribution units etc.
HAZID for increased helifuel to the Akpo field Flotel. The study carried out on site, in addition also required an investigation prior to the study
HAZOP – Qatar Petroleum Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) project – Phase 1 and MPP line to Refinery depot and International airport – Phase 2.
Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Study – Al Khafji FDP Phase 1 Onshore gas processing facility. The study also included verification of the SIL targets.
FIREPRAN Studies – FIREPRAN (Fire Protection Analysis) was carried out on Santa Barbara, Otumara Node, Umuechem, Ahia and Adibawa flow stations
HAZOP Study was carried out as part of SPDC’s AGGS project on Santa Barbara, Otumara Node, Umuechem, Ahia and Adibawa flow stations.
HAZID Session on Total E&P Angola (TEPA) as part of project update for TEPA’s Block 3 offshore installations.
HAZID, HAZOP, SAFOP, FIREPRAN, SIL, and studies for Otumara Node detailed engineering design
HAZID and HAZOP studies for the FEED Antan Offshore Wellhead Platform project
HAZID – Abu Dhabi Oil Company Bu Hasa Gas Lift project – FEED stage hazard identification study
